One of our most pressing challenges is the eradication of termites.
The century-old Tannowa Sanso has suffered significant structural damage to its timber foundations due to prolonged termite infestation.
As an initial countermeasure, we’ve chosen to implement the Bait System—widely regarded as the most effective and environmentally responsible approach compared to traditional chemical barriers. This system involves placing poison-infused bait—combined with cellulose, a primary termite food source—along active termite trails. The termites then transport the bait back to their nest, leading to the eventual elimination of the entire colony.
While this method requires 2–3 months of patience, it offers the advantage of minimizing harm to both humans and the surrounding structure.
With the arrival of spring and increased insect activity, we’re optimistic for swift results, after which full-scale renovation can begin.
